Introduction

The sky of Midgard changes on its own. Every hour, each region of the world can get rain, snow, fog, a storm and more. The team can also give a map a season that changes its light. It is all for the eyes: weather and seasons never change your fights, drops or EXP.

  • 13 weathers
  • 8 regions, each with its own weathers
  • Every hour: a new draw for each region
  • 4 seasons, set map by map

How the weather changes

  1. On the hour, the weather of the last hour stops everywhere.
  2. Each region then has about 1 chance in 5 (22%) to get a new weather. Most hours, the sky stays clear.
  3. If it does, a message tells you, in your language: "Rain is falling over Rune-Midgarts South Kingdom."
  4. The weather stays until the next hour.

Fireflies and northern lights only come at night, between 19:00 and 07:00 server time. Type @time to check the server time.

After the rain

When it rained (or stormed) over a region and the rain stops at the next hour, there is 1 chance in 2 that a rainbow appears over the whole region. It fades after 10 minutes.

Which weather, where

Each region has its own weathers. The first one in the list is the most likely.

What each weather looks like

Every effect fades in and out smoothly. It is drawn over the scenery but under your windows, so it never hides your chat or your bars.

WeatherWhat you see
RainRain falling over the map.
StormHeavier, faster and more slanted rain, with flashes of lightning every 7 to 19 seconds.
SnowSnowflakes falling.
BlizzardA violent wind blowing to the left: thin streaks and big snowflakes.
FogA mist that drifts slowly, thicker in the distance.
CloudsClouds passing over the map.
SakuraCherry blossom petals drifting down.
LeavesLeaves swirling down.
SandstormGrains of sand blown to the right, in a sandy haze.
AshA slow fall of dark flakes with a few glowing embers, an orange haze and a darker sky.
FirefliesSmall, brief glows hovering over the ground.
RainbowA rainbow set in the scenery, near where you stand.
Northern lightsA curtain of light in the sky: green, then blue-green, then violet.

The team can also call special weathers on a map, outside the hourly draw.

At night

The world has its own day and night: 2 hours of day, then 30 minutes of night. At night, a few fireflies glow around you on every map, even indoors and in dungeons. In towns where night falls, the lanterns light up.

Seasons

The team can give a map one of 4 seasons. A season tints the light of the map: the sun, the ground, the trees and the houses. The textures do not change and the map stays easy to recognise. Most of the time, a map has no season (normal light).

SeasonLightFalling effect
AutumnOrange, with russet foliageMaple leaves
SpringBright and freshSakura petals
SummerWarm and yellowNone
WinterCold and bluishSnow

The season belongs to the map: you see it as soon as you enter, and it stops when you leave. When a map goes back to normal, leaves, petals or snow already falling stop at your next map change.

Turning the effects off

If the effects bother you or slow your computer, open Menu > System > Settings and switch off Weather Effect in the Display tab (see the Options). It hides every weather, the night fireflies and lanterns, and the falling effects of the seasons. The season light stays.
